About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, implement, and evolve CI/CD pipelines for microservices, embedding automated testing, gated promotions, and safe rollback strategies.
  • Standardise and automate deployment patterns for containerised workloads, ensuring environments are versioned, reproducible, and consistent.
  • Build and maintain Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, ensuring changes are peer-reviewed, traceable, and free from configuration drift.
  • Reduce manual intervention through automation and engineering improvements.
  • Improve system scaling, failover, retry, and resilience patterns across services.
  • Support definition and tracking of service-level objectives, contributing to structured incident response and systemic post-incident improvements.
  • Strengthen observability across logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting to ensure services are diagnosable in production.
  • Embed security controls into CI/CD pipelines, including automated scanning and secure dependency practices.
  • Improve secrets management, certificate lifecycle automation, and secure container practices.
  • Increase cost visibility across Azure environments, implementing right-sizing, scaling policies, and lifecycle management to reduce waste.
  • Contribute to automation of operational workflows in event-driven and distributed environments.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong experience operating production workloads on Azure in cloud-native environments.
  • Proven CI/CD design and implementation experience (Azure DevOps or equivalent tooling).
  • Infrastructure as Code expertise (ARM, Bicep, or similar), with disciplined Git-based workflows and peer-reviewed changes.
  • Experience working with containers (Docker) and understanding of orchestration concepts (Kubernetes desirable).
  • Practical experience implementing observability solutions such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering practices, structured incident response, and resilience patterns.
  • Solid networking fundamentals, including private networking, TLS, ingress/egress controls.
  • Experience with secrets management solutions such as Azure Key Vault and strong understanding of identity and access controls.
  • Strong scripting and automation capability (PowerShell, Bash; Python desirable).
  • Comfortable working in event-driven environments (e.g., Azure Service Bus).
