About the role
- Provide expert advice, and training in island management and threat mitigation
- Lead development of tools, systems, and processes to enable effective biodiversity outcomes on islands
- Translate complex science into practical solutions and communicate advice clearly to diverse audiences
- Build technical capability within DOC and across partners
- Represent DOC in cross-agency initiatives and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
- Work as an honourable treaty partner and promote Māori engagement and involvement in your work
Requirements
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
- Sound analytical and strategic thinking skills
- Recognised expertise in biodiversity conservation and technical programme design
- A graduate or post-graduate qualification in biological sciences
- Ability to lead complex projects and deliver results on time and within budget
- Practical experience in an island environment
- Self-awareness, pragmatism and agility to adapt as the role requirements evolve
- Understanding or willingness to learn Māori tikanga and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it relates to your work
- Familiarity with national and international best practice in biodiversity management
