About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for U.S. and Canadian employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local regulations.
  • Manage payroll schedules, reconciliations, and reporting cycles in alignment with company policies and statutory requirements.
  • Partner with Finance, HR, and external vendors to ensure seamless payroll integration and data integrity.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation, tax laws, and regulatory changes in both countries.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll-related audits, filings, and remittances (e.g., IRS, CRA, state/provincial agencies).
  • Lead internal controls and risk mitigation strategies related to payroll and tax compliance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing payroll team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear performance goals and provide regular feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Promote cross-training and knowledge sharing to build team resilience and adaptability.
  • Identify and implement process enhancements to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, and employee experience.
  • Leverage technology and automation to streamline payroll operations and reporting.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure operational excellence.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and escalations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support business initiatives, workforce changes, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide strategic insights and reporting to senior leadership on payroll trends, risks, and opportunities.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field; CPP or PCP certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in both U.S. and Canadian payroll processing and tax compliance.
  • Strong understanding of payroll systems and HRIS integrations.
  • Required Software Skills: ADP Workforce Now and/or ADP GlobalView – advanced proficiency in payroll processing and reporting.
  • Oracle HCM Cloud – experience with payroll data management, integrations, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
