About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Direct the CFD team’s day-to-day activities, quality, staffing, client engagement, and performance
  • Manage direct reports through 1:1s, performance reviews, career development planning, hiring, PTO approval, timesheet and expense review, staffing, and workload balancing
  • Mentor team members and promote delegation, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Provide technical oversight for CFD analysis scope, methodology, modeling strategy, meshing, boundary conditions, and modeling approaches
  • Coordinate and oversee QA/QC reviews of CFD reports and deliverables
  • Maintain and evolve CFD standards, templates, calculators, and SharePoint documentation
  • Serve as escalation point for unresolved technical challenges
  • Evaluate competing software platforms, licensing needs, industry trends, and emerging analysis techniques
  • Represent the CFD team in client meetings and maintain and grow key client relationships
  • Identify opportunities for expanded CFD scope and support proposal development with scope, schedule, and budget input
  • Develop marketing materials, whitepapers, and conference presentations
  • Track project financial performance, profitability, resource utilization, schedules, deliverables, and software-license costs
  • Provide the Design Director with a concise weekly summary of team status, risks, and priorities
  • Contribute to long-term CFD capability planning and departmental strategic planning
  • Leverage AI-enabled and digital tools to improve efficiency, processes, and work quality
  • Complete assigned tasks and deliverables on time and on budget
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar relevant engineering field and at least 3 years of consultancy experience; OR Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar relevant engineering field and at least 2 years of consultancy experience
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and hydraulics, including pump, valve, pipe-network, and control impacts
  • Knowledge of organizational objectives, company policies, budgeting, and financial management principles
  • Strong leadership, tactical decision-making, communication, interpersonal, mentoring, and people-management skills
  • Demonstrated experience managing people, including performance management, coaching, and career development
  • Ability to establish operational objectives and work plans, delegate assignments, evaluate technical work product, and identify quality concerns
  • Working knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and CFD fundamentals
  • Familiarity with data center mechanical systems and cooling technologies, including CRAHs, fan walls, in-row coolers, direct-to-chip cooling, and rear-door heat exchangers
  • Familiarity with CFD tools such as Cadence Reality DC Design, Star-CCM+, or ANSYS Fluent sufficient to review modeling approaches
  • Ability to interpret CFD results and reports and identify gaps, inconsistencies, or quality concerns
  • Interest in staying current with CFD industry trends, software platforms, and analysis techniques
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Familiarity with project and resource tracking tools is a plus
  • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment with effective communication, organization, self-motivation, proactiveness, and resourcefulness
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate technical and non-technical information orally and in writing
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet close deadlines, and manage multiple concurrent priorities and direct reports
  • Ability to work in a distraction-free workspace
  • Must be able to remain frequently in a stationary position, move through office/facility environments, and occasionally move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
