About the role

  • Become Trusted Business Partner for the Commercial organization (and each specific department/function)
  • Focus on understanding the key drivers of business performance and their financial implications
  • Become financial point person for Commercial department leaders supporting prioritization efforts / trade-offs in spend when needed
  • Develop business insights and produce KPIs in partnership with Commercial Operations team. Recommend monthly and quarterly accruals to the Accounting team in partnership with the Commercial organization. Work closely with the Accounting team to ensure accurate and timely monthly and quarterly financial results (engage with internal stakeholders and external vendors). Lead the monthly financial analysis for the Commercial organization as a key contributor to the financial close
  • Lead/Support key Commercial financial related projects / initiatives (e.g. vehicle reimbursement program)
  • Lead the annual budgeting, quarterly reforecasts and long-range plan processes for Commercial functions and product launch leads, partnering with business stakeholders and the VP of FP&A to meet company planning deadlines
  • Work with internal stakeholders to create robust functional financial plans, ensuring appropriate planning and accounting for expenses are maintained. Provide relevant information and insights to make informed decisions
  • Work closely with Program and functional leads to gain awareness into key cost drivers
  • Responsible for leading monthly and quarterly variance analysis for actual and forecasted results for Commercial organization
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining quarterly function and program management reporting, analytical reviews, trend analysis and dashboards for the Executive Team & BoD
  • Responsibility for working with the VP of FP&A and other team members to implement an improved planning solution for 2025 that will be leveraged by Disc Medicine employees
  • Develop and deliver monthly function, department and program financial reporting packages that provide actionable insights to Commercial and Product Launch leadership teams
  • Build and maintain robust financial tracking that empowers budget owners to manage actively their functional spend
  • Review material business terms & conditions on Commercial including vendor agreements, contracts and purchase requisitions. Determine appropriate recognition of functional expenses in accordance with US GAAP and company policy
  • Ensure associated financial risks and opportunities, both near and longer-term are identified and periodically reviewed
  • Be a strategic, insightful business partner to Commercial functions and proactively develop and maintain effective relationships
  • Partner with Accounting to assist with monthly & quarter-end close processes for expenses and accruals, budget vs. actual analysis and compliance with internal controls.
  • Partner with Project Launch Management to ensure key activities and drivers are aligned, within scope and appropriate timing
  • Promote visibility and understanding of financial topics across the organization
  • Ad hoc projects supporting strategic priorities, new indication planning, etc.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the Finance organization to streamline processes, improve communication, and enhance the flow of information to the business

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business or related field
  • MBA, CPA certification and/or consulting experience highly preferred
  • Track record of successes in small to mid-size biotech culture
  • 10+ years of relevant work and FP&A experience in the biotech life sciences sector, particularly public companies
  • Experience providing best in class FP&A support for a growing Commercial organization
  • Financial experience in commercial company with revenue, cost of goods sold, and gross margin proceeds
  • Proven expertise in developing comprehensive commercial models, with a strong track record of applying industry best practices to optimize budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation
  • Experience in Planning software systems such as Planful or Adaptive Planning
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills; expertise with a variety of financial software systems (NetSuite)
  • Financial statement knowledge and understanding of US GAAP
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
