About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Serve as a trusted partner and a primary point of contact for DigitalOcean’s technical and non-technical teams.
Conduct comprehensive assessments of legal risks in product development.
Identify, assess, and drive resolution of legal issues related to customer data, privacy, and security.
Advise on US and global privacy laws and emerging AI regulations.
Support the drafting and negotiation of complex commercial agreements.
Help shape the long-term strategy of the product counsel function.
Collaborate with Security, Privacy, and Communications teams.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
8+ years of legal experience with significant in-house experience supporting SaaS, PaaS, and/or IaaS product development teams.
A track record of counseling AI product and engineering teams across the product development lifecycle.
Proven experience in using strong business judgement to calibrate business and legal risk.
A strong understanding of US and global privacy regulations, intellectual property, open-source software, artificial intelligence, and data security.
Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
Superlative communication and collaborative problem-solving skills.
