About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a trusted partner and a primary point of contact for DigitalOcean’s technical and non-technical teams.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of legal risks in product development.
  • Identify, assess, and drive resolution of legal issues related to customer data, privacy, and security.
  • Advise on US and global privacy laws and emerging AI regulations.
  • Support the drafting and negotiation of complex commercial agreements.
  • Help shape the long-term strategy of the product counsel function.
  • Collaborate with Security, Privacy, and Communications teams.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
  • 8+ years of legal experience with significant in-house experience supporting SaaS, PaaS, and/or IaaS product development teams.
  • A track record of counseling AI product and engineering teams across the product development lifecycle.
  • Proven experience in using strong business judgement to calibrate business and legal risk.
  • A strong understanding of US and global privacy regulations, intellectual property, open-source software, artificial intelligence, and data security.
  • Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
  • Superlative communication and collaborative problem-solving skills.
