About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the UI/UX SME and translate business requirements and UX strategy into elegant, intuitive, high-performing interfaces for development teams
- Drive UI/UX best practices across programs, ensuring consistency, usability, and accessibility
- Establish and maintain reusable component libraries and design systems using Bootstrap, Material UI, and Trussworks
- Ensure Section 508 compliance and adherence to WCAG 2.x standards
- Collaborate with product owners, designers, backend engineers, and stakeholders to deliver user-centered solutions
- Partner with project and client leadership on modernization roadmaps and initiatives
- Improve development processes while staying current with emerging frontend technologies
- Lead troubleshooting of complex UI/UX and performance issues
- Provide final UI/UX review and sign-off before customer UAT and rollout
- Lead high-fidelity prototypes and wireframes for multiple teams and technology stacks
- Develop repeatable design-to-development workflows
- Conduct usability testing and design validation sessions
- Coach and mentor development teams on UI/UX best practices and modern design approaches
Requirements
What you’ll need- US citizenship required
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human–Computer Interaction & Design, or related technical discipline strongly preferred; related professional experience in lieu of a degree acceptable
- Over 8 years of hands-on UI/UX design and implementation experience
- 3–5 years leading design initiatives across multiple applications or cross-functional teams
- Advanced proficiency in HTML5 and CSS3
- Advanced proficiency in Figma or Adobe Suite
- Experience designing scalable component-based design systems
- Strong understanding of Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards
- Proven experience optimizing frontend performance and application scalability
- Experience in Agile/DevSecOps development environments
- Ability to lead UI/UX planning discussions and influence frontend strategy
- Experience with React and Power Platforms
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Portfolio showcasing enterprise-level UI/UX work
