About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform skilled technical work in support of our projects as well as providing leadership direction.
- Work activities include the removal and installation of major components, electrical/mechanical retrofits, and commissioning activities.
- A Technician I may also provide guidance to junior technicians and help ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to quality standards.
- Lead or support the execution of repower tasks including drivetrain replacements, electrical and/or mechanical upgrades, and system checks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues encountered during repower work.
- Perform electrical terminations, torquing, and verifications per upgrade procedures.
- Utilize SCADA and other diagnostic tools for operational checks and post-repower validation.
- Generate & complete all relevant paperwork, including work orders, checklists, JSAs etc.
- Mentor other team members on tools, safety practices, and technical procedures.
- Perform scheduled & unscheduled maintenance on wind turbines bringing skills in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulics.
- Participate on large corrective teams with the replacement of major turbine components, e.g., generators, main shafts, and gearboxes.
- Monitor and inspect work to ensure compliance with technical specifications and quality standards.
- Address and resolve any issues that arise during component installation or maintenance.
- Coordinate with construction managers, planners, and other on-site personnel to optimize work execution.
- Provide general project support including staging tools, organizing parts, and site cleanup.
- Participate in LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out), hazard analysis, and pre-task planning processes.
- Maintain adherence to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
- Recognize hazards to stop the job to prevent accidents before they occur.
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associate degree is a bonus, but not required.
- 3+ years’ experience as a Wind Turbine Technician
- Valid driver’s license (NON CDL or CDL).
- Ability to read and interpret documents, and follow instructions, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, given proper instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving at least one concrete variable in standardized situations.
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and drug/alcohol screening.
- The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus because of potential work in close confines.
- Employee must be physically fit enough to free climb 300 ft multiple times a day while wearing 25+ lbs. of climbing gear and work in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be capable of rescuing team mate anywhere in tower in the event of emergency.
