About the role
- Develop strategies and build strong relationships to establish an intervention plan to facilitate the insured's recovery and return to work in a timely and sustainable manner
- Communicate by phone and mail with various parties to develop a comprehensive understanding of the elements and context related to the absence and communicate decisions to the insured and the policyholder
- Approve and adjudicate claims, process waivers of premium, establish the amount of the benefit, determine the period payable and proceed with the payment and ensure the necessary follow-ups are completed
- Prepare documents needed by the organization’s rehabilitation coordinator for claimant interviews
- Review claims with medical consultants and the legal department as required
- Process disability claims in accordance with the terms of the group insurance contract
Requirements
- College diploma in a related field
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience as a disability claims specialist (short- and/or long-term disability management)
