About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Set up and maintain the project inspection folder prior to conducting pre-construction meeting and throughout construction.
- Communicate construction deficiencies to the contractor and convey constructability concerns to floodplain management team following permit approval.
- Pursue escalating enforcement processes on non-compliance issues, as needed.
- Prioritize and manage a portfolio of active floodplain projects and update construction progress status, as needed based on project complexity.
- Ensure project compliance with approved documents and discuss potential regulatory conflicts so they can be resolved to avoid re-work.
- Build strong relationships with contractors, developers, inspectors, and internal partners to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Lead coordination with Mile High Flood District (MHFD) and Denver construction teams for infrastructure construction inspection on an as needed basis.
- Maintain thorough project documentation and reporting in conformance with City requirements.
- Perform expert-level floodplain field inspections and floodplain management program compliance support.
- Verify construction activities in regulated floodplains, conduct field meetings, and support timely permit close-out.
- Inspect building and infrastructure construction within the regulatory floodplain is being completed in compliance with the approved documents from design approval through completion and certification.
- Review and prepare redline review comments for Elevation and/or Floodproofing Certificates.
- Confirm projects were constructed and certified per the approved documents prior to building occupancy.
- Perform field inspections of sanitary sewer, storm drainage, detention, and water quality infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with Denver Wastewater Standard Specifications, Details, and Storm Drainage Design Criteria and coordinate potential conflicts.
- Reduce rework and delays by proactively supporting construction teams in achieving full compliance.
- Serve as an operator in DOTI’s drone inspection program.
- Maintain FAA Part 107 certification and ensure safe, compliant UAS flight operations.
- Capture aerial imagery to support inspection workflows.
- Help standardize drone operations and integration across internal teams for day-to-day and city-wide emergency operations.
- Mentor and support junior inspectors; provide cross-training in areas of inspection expertise.
- Lead initiatives to enhance permitting, inspection, and closure processes with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Maintain minimum safe driving scores.
- Complete and potentially lead assigned safety trainings.
- Pilot new safety technologies or innovation efforts.
- Obtain and maintain BNSF railroad and RTD safety training certifications as required.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field of study
- Two (2) years of experience inspecting construction projects for adherence to project plans and specifications, or construction project management involving the oversight and inspection of construction materials, methods, and equipment
- Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
- Advanced knowledge of flood control and drainageway construction, inspection, and standards
- Knowledge of residential and commercial building construction, inspection, closeout processes, and standards
- Experience with floodplain compliance inspections, Elevation and Floodproofing Certificates, and FEMA/NFIP compliance.
- Experience inspecting sanitary and stormwater systems, including water quality and detention systems.
- FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot Certification (or ability to obtain shortly after hire)
