About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work on research and development projects for medical devices in the field of optical 3D data acquisition for dental applications
- Develop, simulate, and optimize complex optical systems, including optical design, tolerance analyses, and stray light analysis
- Take ownership in concept phases, prototype implementation, and verification activities
- Develop and apply methods and algorithms for analysis, proof-of-concepts, specification development, and verification tasks
- Support the integration of optical systems into overall systems and collaborate closely with mechanical, electronics, and firmware/software teams
- Work in interdisciplinary project teams and take responsibility for defined work packages or subprojects regarding scope, timelines, and costs
- Support the transfer of development results into series production in collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and external partners
- Perform additional tasks as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completed university degree (Master’s or PhD) in a scientific or technical field such as physics, optics, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a comparable discipline
- Several years of professional experience in the development of optical or opto-electronic systems, ideally in an industrial product environment
- Strong knowledge of physical and technical optics and experience with optical design and simulation tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V, or similar)
- Knowledge in optical 3D metrology, machine vision, image processing, or signal processing
- Experience in characterizing image sensors (e.g., resolution, dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio, sensitivity, e.g., according to EMVA 1288 standard)
- Programming skills for analysis and development tasks (e.g., Python, C/C++, OpenCV, STM32 MP2)
- High level of ownership, solution-oriented mindset, and strong initiative
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary and international teams
- Willingness to travel occasionally (e.g., to suppliers)
- Very good German and English skills, both written and spoken.
