About the role
- Work in a small, dedicated team architecting US Navy enterprise systems
- Conceptualize, architect, prototype, and test Kubernetes on bare metal infrastructure
- Collaborate with other teams to integrate applications with Defense Unicorns’ software delivery platform
- Help build pipelines that automate testing, building, packaging, and deploying platform components
- Leverage Infrastructure-as-Code to create standardized, reusable modules that automate provisioning across diverse hypervisors and cloud platforms
- Provide grounded time and effort estimates for tasks and assist in project planning and resource allocation
- Validate solutions/implementations to ensure alignment with tasks and business requirements
- Rapidly understand customer mission requirements, conceptualize and prototype solutions, and rapidly iterate to deliver impact
- Author and maintain technical design documents, ADRs, and test plans
Requirements
- An Active Secret Clearance is required for this position.
- Experience with deploying and operating Kubernetes on bare metal systems
- Experience using Infrastructure-as-Code to configure on-prem hardware
- Strong understanding of system architecture, problem-finding and problem-solving skills
- Bonus points for experience in the Navy domain
- Strong proficiency with bare-metal Kubernetes (RKE2, K3D / K3S, EKS-D)
- Familiarity with continuous delivery, everything-as-code, containerization, and cloud services
- Proficiency in at least one language (Python, Go) and Linux/Unix (Ubuntu, RHEL)
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/HCL, YAML, Bash) and automated CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of Kubernetes networking, service meshes (Istio), ingress/egress controllers (metallb, nginx)
- Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Promtail)
- Security and compliance practices: runtime security (Neuvector), policy enforcement (Kyverno, Pepr)
- Ability to produce technical design docs, ADRs, and test plans
- Excellent communication skills and cross-team collaboration
- Proficiency with GitHub and GitLab
