Key responsibilities & impact
  • The Compliance Lead is the operational owner of legal and regulatory compliance across the entire organization.
  • Build infrastructure, enforce standards, manage external counsel relationships, and serve as the front line of risk management for every department that touches customers, marketing, or revenue.
  • Establish and operate a formal pre-launch review process for all external marketing assets such as ads, landing pages, and email sequences.
  • Build and maintain a versioned asset library with compliance notes, approval status, and review history for marketing collateral.
  • Develop and enforce a testimonial and income claims system in compliance with FTC’s 2023 Endorsement Guides.
  • Review and approve sales webinar scripts and one-on-one sales frameworks before use.
  • Conduct post-webinar compliance audits and feedback sessions with sales leadership.
  • Implement a restatement protocol for all sales interactions.
  • Conduct a full risk assessment of all current products and maintain compliance glossary.
  • Review and update student onboarding agreements and manage compliance tracking.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Background in a compliance, legal, or risk management role within FTC-regulated marketing, financial publishing, fintech, or direct-response marketing. Familiarity with crypto, DeFi, or broader fintech regulatory landscape (SEC, CFTC, and state-level securities laws are a plus).
  • Hands-on knowledge of FTC Endorsement Guides (2023 update), TCPA, CAN-SPAM, and the Publisher’s Exemption under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940.
  • Direct exposure to affiliate ecosystem compliance: monitoring affiliate claims, drafting affiliate agreements, and managing takedowns.
  • Experience reviewing marketing copy, VSLs, email sequences, and webinar scripts for compliance risk in a high-volume, fast-moving content environment.
  • Typicality and earnings claim analysis: understands the distinction between specific income claims, lifestyle claims, and substantiated educational context.
  • Understands digital marketing mechanics: funnels, copywriting psychology, affiliate channels, and how promotional content is constructed — not just reviewed.
  • Can translate legal risk into business-friendly decisions: says “no” when required but always brings an alternative.
  • Comfortable working without a formal legal team above them — this role is the team. Must be a self-starter who builds systems from scratch.
  • Strong written communication: produces clear, actionable compliance memos, policy documents, and feedback that non-attorneys can act on.
  • Commercially aware: understands that compliance is a business enabler, not a roadblock. The goal is compliant revenue growth, not revenue prevention.
  • High sense of urgency: DM is a fast-moving content organization. The Compliance Lead must be able to turn around reviews quickly and communicate clearly about timelines.
  • Low ego, high standards: this person will push back on marketing, sales, and leadership when needed. Must do so confidently and constructively.
  • Pattern-recognition instinct for enforcement: when reviewing content, conversations, business products and initiatives, the internal question is always “would a regulatory body flag this?”
