About the role

  • Coding Team Lead is responsible for supporting the Coding Supervisors in monitoring coders in quality and efficiency, serving as a resource and facilitator while assisting in monitoring quality and production of the coding team.
  • Reviews rebuttals submitted by coders. Provides education to the coder if the error is correct or sends the rebuttal through the process if they agree the coder’s initial coding was correct.
  • Answers coding questions for assigned coders; trending the questions to identify opportunities for additional training. Collaborate with the Client Team and Training Team.
  • Tracks audits completed per coder to ensure coders are receiving timely feedback. Assists with auditing when the coder has not received recent feedback.
  • Support new hires released to the production team by being their coder-buddy.
  • Conducts one on one with coders focused on quality improvement.
  • Assists in tracking coder KPI and quality metrics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Coaches employees who are not meeting the expectations including recommending performance improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Collaborates with the Quality Department to ensure 95% accuracy expectation is met.
  • Report trends for education opportunities in both quality and productivity to management for review and/or action.
  • Assists in coding to meet the monthly production goals while maintaining quality at 95% or higher.
  • Any other tasks required by management.

Requirements

  • AHIMA certified credentials (CCS, CCS-P) or AAPC certified credentials (CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, CRC)
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD -10
  • 2 years' HCC coding experience
  • 1+ years' Team Lead experience a plus
  • A strong knowledge base of medical terminology, medical abbreviations, pharmacology and disease processes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining high quality
  • Must be able to follow instructions, meet deadlines and work independently
  • Ability to be flexible in work environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work in a remote environment and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of the business use of computer hardware and software to ensure effectiveness and quality of the processing and security of the data
