About the role
- The Sr. IT Systems Engineer, Email & Collaboration is a technical SME responsible for designing, implementing, modernizing and optimizing enterprise email and Microsoft 365 collaboration solutions.
Responsibilities include support for on-premises Exchange, hybrid deployments and Microsoft 365 cloud-native services
Manage email routing, connectors, transport rules; enforce enterprise-level email and collaboration policies
Guide use of distribution lists, shared/group mailboxes, M365 groups, Teams; partner with SharePoint Collaboration Engineer
Support mergers/acquisitions, integrating new orgs, federating external directories, enabling secure guest access
Implement/maintain email security controls (spam/malware filtering, phishing protection, DMARC/DKIM/SPF/CAN-SPAM)
Provide advanced troubleshooting and act as escalation for messaging/collaboration incidents
Create/maintain documentation, participate in DR/BC planning and testing, pursue automation and process improvements
Collaborate with security/compliance teams; participate in on-call rotation providing 24/7 coverage
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience (10+ years in IT discipline)
Microsoft certifications in Exchange, M365, or related technologies highly preferred
Security certifications (CISSP, GIAC, CISM) a plus
5+ years designing, implementing, administering enterprise Exchange (on-premises and hybrid)
4+ years hands-on with M365 Exchange Online, Teams, collaboration services
2+ years documenting processes and procedures for support teams
Proven expertise in email routing, mail flow troubleshooting, policy enforcement
Experience integrating acquired companies, federating external partners, enabling guest access
Strong knowledge of email security: spam/malware protection, phishing mitigation, DMARC/DKIM/SPF/CAN-SPAM
Experience guiding business units on shared mailboxes, groups, distribution lists, Teams
Familiarity with compliance (retention, eDiscovery, legal holds)
Skilled in automation and scripting (PowerShell preferred)
Experience in business continuity and disaster recovery for messaging systems
Excellent communication, customer service, collaboration skills
Minimal travel required
