About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide Project Management for factory start-up initiatives.
  • Coordinate activities to improve production techniques, equipment and employee effectiveness, implement Lean manufacturing principles and methods, and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Provides guidance for direct reports and performs Engineering duties and responsibilities.
  • Be the lead facilitator for Factory Master Plan and Standard Work
  • Lead the effort to identify core processes and develop standard work for Manufacturing engineering across Business Units
  • Assess new manufacturing technologies to improve capability, productivity, and quality.
  • Support Core/Non-Core analysis of manufacturing/purchased material.
  • Assess IT/AI technologies to aid/optimize in manufacturing.
  • Lead new technologies launches and capital planning consolidation across BUs
  • Provide Business Unit support by providing manufacturing engineering technical expertise and working collaboratively on manufacturing processes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement/cost down events, frequently as a team leader.
  • Function as a mentor for engineers in the performance of their engineering duties.
  • Frequently serve in a leadership role on organizational initiatives.
  • May lead and/or function as a facilitator or trainer on specific initiatives.
  • Utilize work measurement tools to analyze work samples to develop standards for labor utilization.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Analyze operational data such as work force utilization, facility layout, and workflow to design layout of equipment and workspace following lean manufacturing principles for maximum effectiveness of workers and equipment.
  • Ensure manufacturing systems are operational and functioning effectively.
  • Recommend methods for improving worker effectiveness, safety, and quality; and reducing costs, including recommendations regarding restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflows consistent with demand flow technology, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchase of equipment.
  • Collaborate with the management team to develop Operational Method Sheets, training checklists, and training matrixes.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Manager to identify and implement safe procedures and enhance ergonomics in the manufacturing process.
  • Assists in design for manufacturability for new product development through participation on cross functional product design teams.
  • Establishes production process procedures and measurement parameters for new products and processes.
  • Provide marketing and engineering with cost of new, redesigned, and current products.
  • Specify design of equipment/tools to assist in new and existing production processes and obtain quotes/bids for construction of equipment to submit with recommendations.
  • Evaluate capital equipment investment options and prepare recommendations regarding purchases.
  • Forecast operating cost of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
  • Provide direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures, continuous improvement / cost down initiatives, and engineering activities.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies that may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience in Industrial technology or Industrial Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical, scientific or engineering degree
  • 8+ years of applicable experience, including 5+ years of people leadership experience
  • Engineering management experience required, preferably in sheet metal fabrication and assembly using state-of-art manufacturing processes including cellular manufacturing and Demand Flow Technology
