About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own commercial legal work, along with corporate and compliance support
  • Draft, review, and negotiate client, partner, vendor, and intercompany agreements
  • Serve as the primary legal point of contact for commercial deals from term sheet through signature and beyond
  • Build and improve contract templates, playbooks, and processes
  • Partner with commercial, product, and leadership teams to identify legal risk and provide pragmatic solutions
  • Support sales and client service teams in closing deals by addressing client legal, compliance, and security concerns
  • Support regulatory and licensing requirements connected to U.S. MTL/MSB and Bitlicense authorizations and EU MiCA and PSD2 authorizations
  • Advise on data privacy, AML/sanctions, Travel Rule, marketing, employment law, and tax law matters
  • Translate regulatory obligations into practical guidance and contract terms for internal teams and product teams
  • Support corporate governance and entity matters, including board materials, equity and option grants, and financing
  • Handle corporate housekeeping and maintain corporate records
  • Manage outside counsel work, spending, and relationships
  • Provide weekly and ad hoc updates to the Co-Founder & President on deals and key legal matters

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A law degree (JD or equivalent)
  • Admission to practice or being in good standing in a relevant jurisdiction
  • 5–8 years of relevant legal experience, in-house or at a reputable law firm
  • Strong commercial contracting experience, independently drafting and negotiating client, partner, and vendor agreements
  • Working knowledge of corporate matters, including governance, board materials, and equity/options
  • Comfort supporting compliance and licensing obligations
  • Familiarity with crypto and/or payments products, counterparties, and regulatory context
  • Sound judgment and a practical, risk-weighted approach
  • Clear communication and ability to give crisp, actionable advice to non-lawyers
  • Ability to work autonomously in a remote, fast-paced, early-stage environment
  • Preferred: direct experience with money transmission (MTL/MSB) and/or MiCA regulatory regimes
  • Preferred: exposure to stablecoins, digital assets, or payments infrastructure
  • Preferred: experience as an early or first legal hire and building processes from scratch
  • Preferred: support-level familiarity with licensing applications and regulatory engagement
