About the role
- Serve as Release Train Engineer (RTE) — leader on the Agile Release Train (ART) coordinating a team of teams (50-125 people)
- Oversee and execute CVS initiatives that generate multimillion-dollar business value and touch millions of consumers
- Partner closely with leaders from Product, Engineering, QA, Architecture, Design/UX and across the organization
- Provide quarterly guidance and day-to-day direction to the ART
- Drive train processes and ensure teams have what they need to be successful
- Coach the ART in Scrum, Kanban and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
- Ensure transparency about the ART’s delivery, risks and accomplishments
- Facilitate large planning and solutioning sessions and PI Planning events
- Synthesize data from multiple sources to develop insights on train’s status
- Jump in as needed to support the Train and solve impediments
- Travel for onsite PI Planning when required
Requirements
- 7+ years working with Lean-Agile methodologies
- 2+ years’ direct experience as an RTE
- Advanced understanding of lean-agile principles/mindset and SAFe principles/core values
- Strong technical aptitude and experience leading teams in delivering quality software
- Excellent communication (written, oral, presentations), holistic view and systems thinker
- Able to lead without “Command and Control” style (servant leadership), empathetic
- Proactive, problem-solving approach
- Comfortable jumping in as needed to support the Train
- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills/collaborative style and ability to establish strong working relationships and influence peers and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate large planning and solutioning sessions
- Understanding of Agile at scale philosophies & methodologies; experience with Scrum, XP, Kanban, SAFe, or other scaling models
- Synthesize data from multiple sources and develop insights on train’s status
- Experience using Agile best practices: burn-down charts, retrospective formats, defect management, user stories, ATDD, TDD, BDD, CI/CD, automated testing
- Ability to travel for onsite PI Planning when required
- Preferred: Scrum Master experience with teams working on complex large-scale applications
- Preferred: Experience with Agile collaboration tools such as CA Rally, Confluence, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Miro
- Education: Bachelors Degree or related experience required
- Certification: SAFe Certification of 5.0 or higher
