About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Determine appropriate required welding techniques and procedures for welding applications and qualifications that support the products at EMD
  • Generate weld procedure and welder qualification records
  • Must be comfortable working effectively in a manufacturing environment where arc welding like GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW, PTAW processes which are used to produce x-ray quality structural and seal welds
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve non-routine welding engineering problems as they relate to nontraditional manufacturing and repair work
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering counterparts to resolve joining issues while providing technical support to all involved parties
  • Actively interact and participate in meetings to support engineering, manufacturing and program management
  • Review of supplier qualifications and procedures or provide support for audits

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering, or Welding Engineering Technology
  • Advanced degrees in these disciplines are desired
  • 6+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Knowledge of arc welding processes
  • Experience with GTAW, FCAW, SAW is preferred, but will also consider candidates with knowledge of GMAW, SMAW or PTAW techniques
  • Candidates need experience with either ASME Section III, ASME Section IX, NAVSEA, or Tech Pub welding codes
  • Candidates should have experience working with various carbon, alloy and stainless steels, along with nickel, and copper-based alloys, in addition to dissimilar metal welding
  • Must have prior experience as a Welding Engineer, Materials Engineer, or Manufacturing Engineer
  • Effective communication and organizational skills are essential for working with engineering and operations, and the composition and documentation of processes and procedures
  • Due to DoD requirements, candidates must be US citizens
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearances and approvals
