About the role
- Work directly with the Port Engineer and Vessel Captain to maintain the Curtin Standard onboard
- Perform engineering duties across OSV fleet: troubleshooting, repairs, maintenance, and commissioning
- Clean and maintain engine room to company standards
- Operate and maintain cranes, winches, electrical systems, pumps, auxiliary equipment, gasoline engines, vehicles, and deck machinery
- Perform heavy repairs including engine overhauls and power pack replacement; install systems on new and retrofit applications
- Operate VMS and complete thorough recordkeeping and reporting to Port/Chief Engineer
- Lead and mentor Assistant Engineers and Deckhands; maintain onboard training program
- Manage drydockings, interact with vendors, shipyards, regulatory bodies, and Curtin shoreside team
- Develop SOPs, training content, critical spares lists, and standard operating procedures for commissioned vessels
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, ABS, USCG, and company Curtin Standard
- Perform emergency duties and maintain vessel readiness including critical path and proactive planning

- Physical dexterity and strength to catch and handle lines; makeup tows with wire rigging; operate deck machinery
- Ability to work below decks in darkness; work in confined spaces
- Ability to think clearly during stressful situations or emergencies
- Ability to perform emergency duties and use emergency equipment onboard
- Demonstrate good personal hygiene and maintain cleanliness
- Must be able to swim
- QMED Oiler: MMC QMED Oiler, STCW, RFPEW, Passport (Preferred: Able Seaman Endorsement)
- Assistant Engineer (daily $450-$650): 3rd Assistant Engineer, STCW, OICEW, Passport (Preferred: Able Seaman Endorsement)
- Engineer: DDE 4000, STCW, Chief Engineer Ltd 4000 HP (III/3), STCW OICEW, Passport (Preferred: DDE Unlimited, Able Seaman Endorsement)
- Chief Engineer: Chief OSV or Chief Limited Oceans STCW, Chief Engineer 4000 (III/2), Passport (Preferred: Able Seaman Endorsement)
- Preferred/desired proficiencies: Z–Drive experience, winch operation, welding skills, heavy repair experience, commissioning vessels, system installation, electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic/mechanical troubleshooting
- Proficient in operation of VMS and thorough recordkeeping and reporting
- Understanding and compliance with Sub-L, Sub-I, ABS, and USCG requirements (where applicable)
- Leadership skills: lead by example, manage crew, vendors, shipyards; provide constructive feedback; create SOPs and training content
- Experience managing drydockings and repairs; project management skills
- Willingness to travel and work rotational schedule (average 28 days on/28 days off)
