Payroll Specialist

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy across time records, pay rates, bonuses, commissions, reimbursements, garnishments, and other compensation details.
- Maintain and audit employee payroll records, with a focus on time entry, benefits, deductions, and tax information.
- Ensure accurate calculation and submission of federal, state, and local payroll taxes in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
- Partner closely with HR and Finance teams to ensure smooth data entry for new hires, terminations, job changes, and leave management.
- Reconcile payroll accounts with the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Respond quickly and professionally to employee questions about paychecks, withholdings, or adjustments.
- Manage stop payments, reissues, and corrections when discrepancies arise.
- Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and required filings.
- Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll.
- Proactively identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and improve efficiency.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2+ years of payroll processing experience, ideally in a high-volume, multi-state environment.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
- Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to partner effectively across the business.
- Preferred but not required: Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll and Workday Time Tracking.
