About the role
- Lead the overall technical coordination of complex mechanical and automotive systems product development activities
- Be accountable for the project management of technical risk and quality of the product up to and including early production
- Integrate the requirements of interdisciplinary and cross-functional stakeholders of product development
- Make key decisions that impact cost and delivery without sacrifice to the quality expectations of the Value Package Profile (VPP)
- Obtain input and negotiate with program leadership, product engineers and technology teams to deliver robust prototype and production designs
- Develop technical risk mitigation plans and coordinate deliverables of new or current product change activity
- Work extensively in engineering processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), and Current Product Support (CPS)
- Utilize tools including Product Development Six Sigma (PDSS), iDFMEA, Voice of the Customer and Voice of Other Stakeholders (VOC/VOX), and project risk 9-box to support high quality decision making
- Establish and maintain the balance triangle of Scope, Schedule and Resources for projects
- Oversee product development execution, monitoring, and control activities for complex products
- Perform product function modeling, simulation, and analysis using predictive tools and methods
- Take mitigating actions when project risks exceed expectations and lead full product life cycle process
- Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable system requirements and establish acceptance criteria for system designs
- Integrate market and key customer needs into a comprehensive development plan
- Solve complex product problems using the 7-Step Product Problem Solving Process to implement robust solutions and prevent recurrence of issues
- Coordinate development of design verification and system validation plans to identify failure modes while managing risks.

- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as a Technical Project or Product Engineer, or related position
- Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, or related field and 5 years of experience as a Technical Project or Product Engineer, or related position
- Experience to include: Deliver robust prototype and production designs and technical risk mitigation plans; Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), and Current Product Support (CPS); Product Development Six Sigma (PDSS), iDFMEA, Voice of the Customer and Voice of Other Stakeholders (VOC/VOX); Scope, Schedule, Resource and Project Management; Product development execution, monitoring, and control; Product function modeling, simulation and analysis; System Requirements Engineering; Product platform development; 7-Step Product Problem Solving Process to determine the assignable cause and identify the systemic root causes; Develop design verification and system validation plans.
