About the role
- Manage and develop the database infrastructure in both on-premises and cloud-hosted environments.
- Provide technical leadership and direct oversight for database operations and improvements.
- Supervise a small team, maintaining performance, scalability, and reliability across SQL Server environments.
- Support platforms like Cosmos DB and PostgreSQL.
- Design, implement, and manage SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and related high availability/disaster recovery solutions.
- Lead activities focused on performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
- Administer, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases in both on-premises and cloud settings.
- Initiate and oversee automation efforts to streamline setup, configuration, and job scheduling.
- Develop and enforce best practices for database security, backups, recovery, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, development, and DevOps teams to align database strategies.
- Contribute to plans for database modernization, including integration with Fabric, Elasticsearch, and Azure Data Factory.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a Senior or Lead SQL Server DBA managing production workloads.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL Server administration, performance tuning, and query optimisation.
- Significant hands-on experience with SQL Server Always On (Availability Groups) and HA/DR setups.
- Experience with both on-premises and cloud-hosted database management.
- Proficiency with Cosmos DB and PostgreSQL is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to automate deployments, setup, and maintenance (using PowerShell, T-SQL, or similar).
- Leadership experience, including guiding and mentoring other DBAs.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills, with a focus on process improvement.
