Oversee and manage all phases of employment-related litigation and arbitration matters, including pre-litigation disputes, discovery, motions, trial and arbitration preparation, hearings, settlement negotiations, and appellate work.
Collaborate with the internal legal team, as well as business leaders, to develop arbitration and litigation strategies that align with company goals and mitigate risk, while ensuring that decisions reflect the business's overall legal risk profile and strategic objectives.
Engage, manage, and direct outside counsel in employment litigation and arbitration matters, ensuring cost-effective, efficient, and favorable outcomes.
Review and approve outside counsel billing to ensure compliance with the company’s legal budget.
Conduct and oversee internal investigations related to employment matters, including workplace discrimination, harassment, wage disputes, and other sensitive issues, advising on whether disputes should be resolved through arbitration or litigation.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, particularly as they pertain to arbitration agreements and employment law compliance.
Monitor regulatory developments that may impact the company’s approach to employment arbitration and dispute resolution.
Work closely with various departments, including HR, finance, and operations, to provide strategic legal counsel on employment-related initiatives, arbitration matters, and dispute resolution strategies.
Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Active bar membership in good standing in the state where the company is located or ability to obtain in-house counsel licensure.
7+ years of experience in employment litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution, including single plaintiff claims, wage and hour disputes, and class actions.
Expertise in employment law, arbitration, and regulatory compliance.
Strong understanding of arbitration procedures, including arbitration clauses, selection of arbitrators, and strategies for successful dispute resolution.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present legal issues clearly and concisely to non-legal stakeholders.
Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Resourceful self-starter who enjoys wearing multiple hats and digging into challenging projects, big and small.
Ability to seek pragmatic solutions to mitigate risks, taking into account commercial considerations.
Ability to develop litigation and arbitration standardized processes and procedures from initial complaint to resolution.
Positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
