About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide legal analysis and advice on federal and state mortgage lending laws and regulations
  • Lead and support regulatory change management by monitoring legal developments, interpreting requirements, and advising on implementation strategies
  • Advise on new and expanded business initiatives, products, and lines of business
  • Assess regulatory risk and structure compliant solutions
  • Conduct legal research and deliver actionable guidance to business and compliance stakeholders
  • Partner with Senior Regulatory Counsel and Compliance, Operations, Product, and Technology teams
  • Translate legal and regulatory requirements into operational controls within loan origination and compliance systems
  • Develop and maintain internal compliance resources, including a Mavent Compliance Guide
  • Draft, review, and update policies and procedures
  • Identify regulatory risks and compliance gaps and recommend mitigation strategies and process improvements
  • Support internal audits, examinations, and regulatory inquiries by preparing responses and documentation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 2+ years of relevant legal or regulatory compliance experience in the banking or mortgage industry, preferred
  • Experience advising on consumer mortgage lending laws and regulations, including TILA/Regulation Z, RESPA, ECOA, HMDA, and applicable state laws
  • Experience supporting regulatory change management and/or product counseling in a financial services environment
  • Familiarity with loan origination systems such as Encompass and compliance tools such as Mavent, preferred
  • Excellent analytical, issue-spotting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to provide clear, concise legal guidance to diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret complex legal requirements and translate them into practical, operationally sound business solutions
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, evolving regulatory environment
