About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the day-to-day operations of broadcast production and editing teams, ensuring consistent, high-quality execution across all platforms.
- Provide direct supervision, scheduling, and administrative oversight for production and editing staff.
- Serve as a hands-on operational leader, stepping into production or technical roles as needed for breaking news, special coverage, or staffing gaps.
- Train, onboard, coach, and mentor operators, ensuring alignment with broadcast standards, workflows, and protocols.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and positive work environment, modeling strong leadership, communication, and professionalism.
- Ensure adequate staffing coverage for live news, special events, and extended coverage situations.
- Support the daily technical operation and reliability of broadcast systems, studios, control rooms, edit environments, and news gathering operations.
- Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues involving production systems, editing systems, audio, video, and broadcast air chain.
- Work closely with the Director of Engineering on engineering projects, system upgrades, preventative maintenance, and workflow improvements.
- Provide technical support for live broadcasts, breaking news, and special events, ensuring seamless execution under deadline pressure.
- Assist with the maintenance and oversight of broadcast infrastructure, including control room systems, studio equipment, ENG workflows, and related technology.
- Help enforce and maintain engineering best practices, documentation, and operational standards.
- Ensure compliance with FCC rules, broadcast regulations, and station technical policies.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal teams as needed to support equipment performance and system reliability.
Requirements
What you’ll need- An associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent years of experience
- Thorough understanding of FCC broadcast regulations and compliance requirements
- Strong knowledge of broadcast engineering, newsroom operations, and production workflows
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead effectively in a live broadcast environment
- Reliable, self-motivated leader with strong personal integrity and a positive, solutions-oriented approach
- Proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and remain calm under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and think creatively to resolve problems
- Onsite essential role
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in technical environments
