About the role
- Represents the organization on claims-related legal matters
- Provides legal advice and counsel to claims personnel
- Maintains control of files and litigation costs
- Develops, prepares, and implements claims litigation strategy
- Will manage both first party property litigation as well as liability litigation
- Assigns cases to outside counsel and evaluates their performance
- Provides legal advice and training to claims personnel to ensure consistent file handling
- Controls litigation costs and claim severity
- Responds to subpoenas, court orders and other legal requests in compliance with applicable laws and company policies
- May attend pertinent trials but is not attorney of record
- May provide oversight and supervision to outside counsel on claims-related litigation
Requirements
- Typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience or a combination of related experience, education and training
- Must have passed the Bar exam
- Candidates who live within 50 miles of Bloomington, Illinois will follow a hybrid schedule
- Candidates more who live more than 50 miles from Bloomington will work remotely.
