About the role
- Lead a refrigeration design team and manage engineering projects from conception through completion.
- Leverage expertise in refrigeration and controls design, construction, and installation to deliver high-quality, code-compliant solutions.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers, architects, and construction project managers.
- Produce, coordinate, and quality control refrigeration engineering construction documents ensuring alignment with client requirements, code compliance, and site-specific adaptations.
- Conduct site investigations and prepare reports with findings and recommendations.
- Produce design plans, calculations, and reports with limited direction.
- Coordinate with sub-consultants and multi-discipline team members and interact directly with clients providing support and technical guidance.
- Develop and manage phase- and task-level budgets and schedules; plan, assign, and supervise production staff.
- Coordinate responses to addenda, RFIs, and change orders; assist with proposals and scope development for new projects.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation; ensure constructability and technical accuracy of design deliverables.
- Apply knowledge of liability issues and risk management in design decisions; provide mentorship, training, and technical leadership for refrigeration staff.
- Travel expected a couple of times a month for on-site survey visits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or related discipline) required.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
- 8+ years of experience in refrigeration system design and preparation of construction documents, preferably for commercial projects such as retail grocery supermarkets or cold storage facilities.
- Proven experience managing teams and delivering projects from design through construction support.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office Suite.
- Expertise in refrigeration and controls design, construction, and installation.
- Experience producing construction documents, calculations, and reports.
- Ability to coordinate with multi-discipline teams and sub-consultants.
- Willingness to travel a couple of times a month for on-site survey visits.
