About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead R&D projects focused on ceramic matrix composite preforms, including material selection, processing, characterization, and performance evaluation for hypersonic environments
- Design and implement experimental protocols for testing and validating new materials and processes
- Design parts with optimized ply schedules and architectures based on densification methods
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical, process, software, controls) to execute multi-year product development plans
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in high-temperature composites and hypersonic systems
- Ensure compliance with project requirements and safety standards throughout the research process.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in chemical or materials engineering or a related engineering discipline required
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field desired
- 5+ years of experience in composites engineering, with a strong focus on high-temperature materials
- Proven track record in leading R&D projects, preferably funded by government grants
- Experience with material characterization techniques (thermal, mechanical, microstructural, etc.)
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills for proposal development, report writing, and presentations
- Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members
- Strong background in statistics and problem-solving techniques.
