About the role

  • Lead the development, implementation, and governance of engineering standards for ITC’s high-voltage transmission substations.
  • Lead the creation and refinement of substation design standards, specifications, and guidelines covering physical layouts, electrical systems, grounding, protection schemes, and SCADA integration.
  • Perform and review complex engineering analyses to support standardization efforts, including fault analysis, bus and cable sizing, grounding system design, and lightning protection.
  • Ensure all standards align with applicable codes (IEEE, NESC, NEC), utility requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Evaluate new technologies, equipment, and materials for inclusion in standard practices, balancing innovation with reliability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, procurement, and construction teams to ensure standards are practical, scalable, and field-tested.
  • Maintain and manage a centralized repository of engineering standards, templates, and reference documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership during audits, quality reviews, and compliance assessments.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and standards staff, fostering technical growth and consistency in application.
  • Represent the utility in industry working groups, technical committees, and regulatory forums.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to proactively update standards and practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in related area(s) for Senior Engineer level and two (2) for Intermediate Engineer.
  • Power system coursework preferred for electrical engineering majors.
  • Utility experience preferred.
  • Possess sound analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside the Company.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision, in a team environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to learn and utilize job specific software.
