About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analysis, design, programming, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of system that supports Point-of-Sale and Batch processes using Microfocus Cobol, CICS, Oracle and JCL.
- Analyze RFP documentation, meet with appropriate team members or clients, analyze software factors, assist with proposal work, and complete design documentation and estimates that meet the business requirements.
- Accurately and completely develop and unit test software solutions to meet client requirements.
- Develop testing recommendations for more in-depth testing for modifications.
- Optimize existing COBOL programs for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Provide on-call support on as needed basis.
- Perform impact analysis and root-cause investigations for production incidents.
- Resolve any issues that present themselves in a timely manner to prevent system outages.
- Investigate, resolve and document assigned issues and propose/implement solutions.
- Assist in discussions with clients and/or in the explanations of the issues, and recommended solutions.
- Assist in preparation of functional specifications for application systems, presentation of system requirements and designs to client personnel.
- Develop status reports of development activities weekly, to appropriate management.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Proficient working with MICROFOCUS COBOL (Preferably in LINUX environment) – including working on CICS, JCL and ORACLE and extensive knowledge on Health care business and PBM.
- Have broad knowledge of system engineering/automation concepts, practices and procedures and is expected to perform work related to analysis, design, programming, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of a Point-of-Sale application.
- At least eight (8) years of COBOL and 5+ years of PBM domain experience.
- Combination of mainframe programming expertise and in-depth understanding of pharmacy benefit management workflows — including claims adjudication, prior authorization, formulary processing, and NCPDP transaction standards.
- Strong oral and written communications skills, as candidate will be required to interact with business users to elicit and understand business requirements.
- Ability to diagnose problems and suggest resolution with minimal guidance.
- Readiness to take responsibility for assigned tasks and work with others as needed to complete tasks.
- Ability to successfully function within a project team and be a team player in an environment of deadlines and project milestones.
- Have a positive “can and will do” attitude.
