About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead, mentor, and support a team of 2+ designers through feedback, career guidance, and hands-on coaching
Establish design quality, craft, and collaboration standards across the organization
Conduct design critiques and foster a constructive, inclusive, growth-oriented feedback culture
Hire and onboard additional design talent as the team scales
Architect and implement a scalable design system with component libraries, design tokens, interaction patterns, and documentation
Establish and enforce design best practices, accessibility standards, and brand guidelines
Create and maintain design documentation
Serve as the internal Figma expert and establish libraries, file organization, naming standards, and component governance
Train designers and cross-functional partners on advanced Figma capabilities
Evaluate Figma platform updates and new features
Collaborate with Product and Engineering from discovery through delivery
Influence roadmap decisions with design thinking and user-centered insights
Facilitate design reviews and align stakeholders on design direction, rationale, and tradeoffs
Evaluate and champion AI-powered design tools and workflows
Experiment with AI tooling and develop responsible-use guidelines
Position the design team as an early adopter and internal champion of AI-assisted workflows
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years of experience in product design
At least 2 years in a design leadership or senior IC role within a product-driven technology organization
Deep expertise in Figma, including component architecture, variables/tokens, auto layout, and prototyping
Demonstrated experience building or significantly maturing a design system from the ground up
Strong portfolio showing end-to-end product design work and systems-level thinking
Excellent communication and facilitation skills
Proven ability to mentor and grow designers at varying experience levels
Solid understanding of front-end development principles and design-to-engineering implementation
Experience working in a fast-growing startup or scaling design function preferred
Familiarity with AI-powered design tools preferred
Experience with user research methods preferred
Experience working with product managers and engineers in an Agile or continuous delivery environment preferred
Track record of advocating for and improving accessibility preferred
