About the role
- Lead and grow the RCM Core Backend team (15+ engineers), ensuring clarity of purpose, healthy execution, and strong collaboration.
- Maintain the team’s startup mindset while scaling in a fast-paced environment.
- Own technical execution and delivery of major backend systems and automation platforms powering RCM products, ensuring scalability.
- Drive product-wide initiatives, scale mission-critical backend services, and build new automations.
- Support the RCM Product team to build customer-facing features on top of platform solutions and collaborate with Operations to deliver and maintain automations.
- Partner closely with Product, Ops, and cross-functional teams to build backend services that solve high-value business problems.
- Manage project and resource prioritization to ensure the team works on the most important work streams with the right level of urgency and technical rigor.
- Uphold high standards in system design, code quality, and engineering operations, fostering a culture of reliability and ownership.
- Coach and develop engineers, supporting career growth, technical excellence, and a high-performing culture.
- Foster a strong, in-person culture of collaboration, inclusion, and mutual respect within the engineering team.
- Ensure system reliability, performance, and correctness for systems that handle hundreds of millions of dollars in claims annually.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience developing software, with a background in shipping products in a fast-paced, rapidly scaling environment.
- 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including mentoring, performance reviews, and fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
- Experience managing teams of 10+ engineers, ideally with sub-team leads or tech leads reporting to you.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate strongly with cross-functional teams and effectively present technical concepts to leadership.
- A passion for healthcare innovation and making a meaningful impact on patient care.
- Proven ability to deliver platform-scale systems that are reliable, maintainable, and scalable.
- Proven experience as a technical leader with the ability to make key architectural and strategic decisions that influence the overall product direction.
- Strong technical background with expertise in modern backend development (e.g., Python, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes) to build broad, event-driven platforms.
- Proven ability to manage resource allocation, ensuring that projects are completed on time and with the right level of technical rigor.
- Experience scaling engineering teams in high-growth environments. (Preferred)
- Background in building and optimizing scalable web applications with a focus on performance and user experience. (Preferred)
- Experience in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, insurance) with a focus on compliance, security, and reliability. (Preferred)
- Comfortable being in the Mountain View, CA office 5 days per week; this position is not remote. (Application requirement)
