Provides clinical consultation and supervision to nursing personnel and other staff and participates in clinical operations and patient care activities within the unit
Assures patient care is provided in accordance with organizational/system-wide accepted standards of care and practice
Demonstrates effective management of staffing resources including appropriate skill mix and numbers of staff
Models decision-making, collaboration and negotiation skills to maximize patient outcomes and resource utilization
Participates in work process and system redesign, shared governance, and outcomes measurement activities
Follows up on unusual occurrences or incidents involving patients, employees, equipment, or supplies
Collaborates in identification, investigation and implementation of improvement opportunities related to professional/patient care practices and patient outcomes
Utilizes quality improvement/problem solving knowledge in day-to-day operations and strategic planning
Provides ongoing interpretation of financial and clinical data, analyzes population-specific data, establishes and monitors an annual budget, and guides decision-making to achieve financial goals
Assures job descriptions are current, selects and orients staff, establishes competency expectations, and supports professional development
Provides performance feedback, conflict resolution, fosters staff development, and promotes innovative care practices
Establishes goal-oriented service philosophy, consensus building, resource allocation, and advocates change based on patient, family, physician, and staff needs
Requirements
Bachelor’s of science degree in nursing (BSN)
Master’s degree in a related field or degree in health care administration
California Registered Nurse
BLS and PALS from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Three years of clinical nursing experience, with at least one year in pediatric critical care nursing
