About the role

  • Acts as Lead Engineer over protection & controls projects for medium to high voltage utility substations
  • Provides training to others with knowledge in electromechanical relays, microprocessor-based relays, and other related protection & controls topics
  • Develops engineering cost estimates for proposals
  • Oversees the preparation of equipment specifications, bid evaluations and procurement recommendations
  • Development of protection & control design submittals including bill of materials, one-line diagrams, AC three-line diagrams, DC schematics, communication diagrams, SCADA integration, cabling, wiring, and panel front views
  • Familiar with physical layouts of major equipment and verification of phasing
  • Ability to perform quality control checking of protection & control deliverables
  • Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
  • Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work
  • Prepares a variety of engineering deliverables such as contract documents, project documents, and studies with little to no supervision
  • Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Demonstrates understanding of project phases, schedules and schedule recovery as it pertains to engineering production and deliverables
  • Actively seeks to understand client interests and drivers through project related client contact and through interaction and communication with project leadership
  • Support Business Development by providing technical information for sales proposals, or by pursuing other related activates as assigned by department managers
  • Continues to learn and develop knowledge and skills in departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and Commonwealth Associates policies and procedures
  • Applies this knowledge to assigned tasks

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program required
  • 2 - 4+ years of related P&C experience
