About the role

  • Track state and local policy developments and analyze impacts on Georgia communities
  • Lead and implement state programmatic efforts and statewide advocacy campaigns in collaboration with the Policy Director
  • Support coalition work: manage working/project groups, conduct research, organize meetings, coordinate actions, ensure communication
  • Oversee the election protection program and coordinate outreach to safeguard voting rights and the electoral process
  • Lead policy research and analysis; identify policy proposal opportunities; draft, edit, and disseminate policy briefs, reports, and advocacy materials
  • Lead systems monitoring, toolkit production, trend tracking, and quantitative research
  • Monitor state and local legislative developments, track bills, and provide strategic guidance; execute lobbying efforts, testimony, and public comment
  • Lead data-informed projects, research design, publications, and prepare/submit FOIA and government records requests
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations and partners; execute outreach campaigns and coordinate digital/social media
  • Represent Common Cause at community events and coalition meetings
  • Supervise temporary staff and interns; recruit, train, coordinate, and mentor interns and volunteers
  • Support fundraising: write grants, cultivate donor relationships, manage reporting; assist state advisory board administrative tasks
  • Complete administrative tasks and perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Have worked on public advocacy campaigns related to democracy, elections, voting rights, and civil rights
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and strong interest in current statewide democracy issues, including voting rights, redistricting, campaign finance reform, disinformation, ethics, etc., with demonstrated knowledge of the unique aspects of Georgia's political dynamic
  • Have played a leadership role in coalitions or groups that represent stakeholders with diverse interests to achieve a goal
  • Willing to have a social media presence on behalf of Common Cause, including being tagged on posts and creating content on behalf of the organization
  • Ability to travel 1-2 times per year for team and/or all staff retreats
  • Ability to work in-person in the Georgia office OR at various locations around the state up to 4 days per week, especially during legislative sessions
  • Per Common Cause nonpartisan policy, staff may not currently be in elected office, running for office, on candidate Steering/Finance Committees, or affiliated with party leadership
  • Authorization to work in the United States; Common Cause cannot sponsor employment visas at this time
