About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, and maintain single-click apps across the full stack
  • Develop backend services in Node/TypeScript and PHP and frontends in React
  • Integrate with BigCommerce REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks, and OAuth flows
  • Write performant, maintainable, clear, concise code with appropriate test coverage
  • Build extensible, high-quality features for a multi-merchant codebase
  • Monitor production app health, troubleshoot issues, and resolve merchant-impacting bugs
  • Contribute to data migration projects from scripting and validation through cutover
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Translate merchant requirements into technical designs with Product Managers, solutions architects, and services teams
  • Occasionally join client and partner conversations alongside Product Managers
  • Move between projects and codebases, selecting appropriate tools and patterns

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer
  • Solid understanding of programming principles
  • Hands-on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript (Node) and/or PHP on the backend
  • Experience with React and Next.js on the frontend, with depth in one area and willingness to work across the stack
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and services, including REST, GraphQL, webhooks, and OAuth
  • Understanding of multi-tenant systems, including performance, data isolation, and upgrades across thousands of stores
  • Ability to context-switch across concurrent projects and quickly learn unfamiliar codebases
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-engineering stakeholders
  • Ability to take action and own work from inception to delivery
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, or completion of a comprehensive software engineering boot camp is preferred
  • Experience with ecommerce platforms, BigCommerce APIs, or marketplace/app-store distribution models is a bonus
