About the role

  • Lead and develop two teams, including coaching, performance management, career growth, and hiring
  • Drive the technical roadmap for BigCommerce’s storefront experiences
  • Establish a culture of strong ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Improve quality across performance, reliability, observability, scalability, and security
  • Partner with Product to deliver excellent merchant and developer experiences across both Stencil and Catalyst
  • Lead Stencil modernization efforts: evolving the framework’s rendering pipeline, improving existing themes and creating new ones, and modernizing the visual editing experience by integrating Makeswift
  • Lead Catalyst’s continued growth: expand its core feature set, implement new capabilities in B2B commerce, and deliver a new hosting product
  • Establish team objectives aligned with business goals and ensure the team executes against them
  • Facilitate regular 1:1s, healthy feedback cycles, and engineering rituals (e.g., design reviews, knowledge sharing, retros, etc.)
  • Participate in on-call and be responsible for incident management

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of experience in building and operating production systems
  • 2+ years of experience managing & retaining high-performing software engineering teams
  • Strong technical background with an ability to lead technical strategy and architectural discussions
  • A pragmatic approach to execution: you think iteratively and break down problems into deliverable slices
  • Comfortable operating across multiple codebases and teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
