About the role

  • Knowledgeable of all 30 CFR parts 47, 48, 50, 56, 58, & 62 standards.
  • Advise workers, supervisors and managers on technical safety and health matters.
  • Provide managers, general foreman, supervisors, frontline workers, and contractor’s information regarding the safety and health status of the mine.
  • Be responsible for all compliance requirements relating to safety and health such as MSHA and Workers’ Compensation.
  • Provide support to managers and supervisors in all areas of safety and health.
  • Develop and update safety and health policies and procedures and provide assistance to employees in interpreting this information.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are applied in an equitable manner.
  • Regularly inspect the operation for compliance with MSHA regulations and company policies/procedures.
  • Administer site safety programs, monitor compliance with company, government, and MSHA policies and/or regulations.
  • Assist with accident investigations.
  • Represent the company to MSHA inspectors.
  • Initiate/submit 1st Report of Injury forms for work related injuries.
  • Oversee all activities necessary to ensure compliance with the Hazcom program.
  • Oversee all noise sampling and duties regarding compliance with the Hearing Conservation Program.
  • Oversee respirator fit testing and all duties regarding compliance with the Respirator program.
  • Oversee air monitoring activities regarding chemical and dust exposure limits.
  • Oversee biological testing of refinery and assay lab personnel.
  • Attend crew safety meetings on a selective basis either as an observer or presenter.
  • Follows safety procedures and company policies.
  • Prepare operating budget.
  • Oversee prudent purchases of supplies, and other resources.

Requirements

  • Follow all procedures and safety measures to assure safe production
  • Work in all conditions and environments, approximately 50% of job is outdoors
  • Able to lift 25 lbs. on an occasional basis
  • Able to walk up and down slopes and uneven ground daily
  • Must hold and maintain a CPR/AED and first aide certification.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Work as a team member and communicate openly with others
  • Self-directed and able to take leadership role on many projects
  • Willing to stop work for safety concerns and always abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures
  • A minimum of five years experience in mining, or related field, or will accept education as training experience.
  • General knowledge of mine and processing equipment.
  • Knowledge of MSHA standards and safety systems & job procedures.
  • Proficient use of personal computer and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must be able to work with other people, capable of multi-tasking, and be self-motivated.
  • Possess or able to obtain an MSHA certified Instructor card for “Instructor Surface”.
  • Liaise with workers, supervisors and management personnel on safety and health matters.
  • Liaise with outside entities such as MSHA, NSC, local Fire and Rescue agencies.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Professional integrity of the highest level is required at all times
