About the role
- Manage an inventory of moderate to high complexity and exposure commercial workers' compensation claims following company protocols.
- Verify policy coverage, conduct investigations, develop resolution strategies, and authorize disbursements within authority limits.
- Provide exceptional customer service with timely updates and responses to insureds, claimants and business partners.
- Verify coverage, establish reserves, estimate potential claim valuation, and partner with coverage counsel on complex matters.
- Conduct investigations including obtaining documents, recorded statements, and working with experts to determine compensability and liability.
- Authorize claim disbursements, negotiate settlements, and escalate to manager as appropriate.
- Identify subrogation/salvage opportunities and potential fraud; refer to Recovery or SIU as needed.
- Achieve quality and cycle time standards, ensure proper documentation, and maintain compliance with state/local regulatory requirements.
- May mentor/coach less experienced claim professionals and perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Solid working knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products, policy language, coverage, and claim practices.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills; ability to develop positive working relationships and present information.
- Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative business relationships with internal and external partners.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement, solve moderately complex problems and make sound business decisions.
- Demonstrated investigative experience with an analytical mindset and critical thinking skills.
- Strong work ethic with time management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Developing ability to negotiate low to moderately complex settlements.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn business-related software.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
- Typically a minimum four years of workers compensation experience, preferably in claim handling (48 months).
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire, where applicable.
- Professional designations are a plus (e.g. CPCU).
