About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- You will be responsible, within a specific geographic area, for handling and defending customer claims related to carriage contracts, as well as any third-party claims connected to the company’s business, and for providing support and advice to operational and commercial teams.
- In addition, you may be assigned specific tasks related to documentation and/or contract review, fraud matters, or debt recovery files.
- You will monitor and report on legal activity and complaints in your geographic area, with the support of the group’s agency network and regional offices, and in accordance with the organization established by the Legal Department.
- You will handle the coverage of claims by P&I clubs and the group’s insurers.
- You will appoint and oversee external law firms to defend CMA CGM’s interests and handle recoveries from third parties.
- You will ensure financial tracking of your files by correctly using the company’s internal IT systems.
- You will work closely with your managers and, within the scope of your delegated authority, negotiate settlements with claimants and third parties.
- Proactively, you will anticipate and propose legal and operational solutions where necessary.
- Finally, you will remain continuously aware of and up to date with legal developments (regulations, case law) in your area of responsibility.
Requirements
What you’ll need- You hold a postgraduate degree (4–5 years) in maritime law and/or insurance law, and/or are a trainee lawyer.
- You have a strong command of IT tools and are fluent in English.
- You are autonomous, highly rigorous, analytical, and have a strong sense of initiative.
- You have negotiation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
