About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work with a team of three or more litigation lawyers
- Prepare legal documents, including letters and court pleadings
- Draft routine litigation filings and procedural documents
- Rigorously manage deadlines, schedule and follow up with lawyers
- Prepare and review documents and correspondence in accordance with client and court guidelines and grammatical standards
- Ensure document layout and formatting
- Open, file, track and organize client and litigation files
- Handle phone calls, emails and other correspondence
- Organize and coordinate meetings among lawyers, clients and other stakeholders
- Prepare files for meetings and hearings
- Perform other tasks as required to support emerging business needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- Diploma in secretarial studies (DEP) or a college diploma (DEC) in administration or legal studies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience as a litigation legal assistant
- Knowledge of legal terminology and procedural rules
- Bilingual in French and English, written and spoken (required)
- Experience supporting a team of three or more lawyers
- Ability to manage a high volume of files simultaneously
- Excellent command of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (intermediate to advanced level)
- Strong attention to detail, rigor and excellent organizational skills
- Familiarity with insurance law is an asset
- Comfortable working in a computer-based environment and able to learn new tools quickly
- Ability to work remotely in an organized and productive manner
- Client-focused, team-oriented, tactful and discreet
- Professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills
- Quick learner, proactive and takes initiative
