About the role
- Manage end-to-end lifecycle for z/OS and Independent Software Vendor (ISV) products including installation, upgrades, and maintenance using SMP/E for multi-LPAR Sysplex environments
- Configure SMPE, order and install software, and perform software maintenance tasks
- Install software release upgrades using zOSMF dialogs and build software maintenance workflows
- Order software and create IBM problem tickets via IBM Support/ShopZ and research IBM software issues
- Install and configure new disk systems (DASD), perform storage management tasks, and configure NFS for IBM z/OS
- Configure HMC, HCD, server/device GENs and coordinate with teams to support upgrades and installations of new IBM Z hardware
- Setup, configure and maintain SAN equipment and Cisco/Brocade network switches; manage IBM z/Systems networking
- Provide expert-level problem determination and resolution for system and application issues using diagnostic tools (IPCS, SLIP, EREP, GTF) and perform root cause analysis
- Analyze svc dump diagnostic data and logs; develop and maintain system exits and utilities using REXX and perform assembler-level analysis when required
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support hardware and software upgrades and ensure stable production environments
Requirements
- Minimum of 15 years of experience on z/OS, z/Linux and z/VM managing the end-to-end lifecycle for z/OS and Independent Software Vendor (ISV) products, including installation, upgrades, and maintenance using SMP/E, for a multi-LPAR Sysplex environment
- Minimum BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent skill set
- SMPE - Configure SMPE, Order Software, Install Software
- zOSMF - Install software release upgrades using dialogs, Build software maintenance workflows
- IBM Support/ShopZ – Order software, Create IBM problem ticket, Research IBM software issues
- DASD - Install new disk systems, configure, manage, perform storage management tasks
- Full knowledge of NFS in IBM z/OS, Power systems, all Linux variants
- A good understanding of Linux and AIX systems administration
- Security - RACF - Maintain existing software security
- Detailed knowledge of SSL/TLS, IBM Policy Agent and IBM GSK
- SYSPLEX - Configure Coupling Facility policies
- HMC - Configure and maintain security, server, Ops (IPL Profiles) and hardware definitions via Hardware Configuration Definition (HCD)
- HCD – Configure server/device GENs
- Networks - Extensive knowledge of IBM z/Systems networks and Cisco network switches; Setup, configure and maintain SAN equipment, IBM and Broadcom/Brocade
- A good understanding of the IBM Z sub-system CICS Debug Tools – Provided expert-level problem determination and resolution for system and application issues, utilizing diagnostic tools such as IPCS, SLIP, EREP, and GTF to perform root cause analysis
- IPCS – Analyze svc dump diagnostic data
- Programming - Basic Assembler - Analyze svc dumps, log-rec diagnostic data; REXX - Develop, maintain system exits, utilities
- Preferred: Extensive experience in operating and customizing IBM z/PDT environments
- Preferred: A good understanding of IBM Z sub-systems such as IBM MQ, IBM IMS and IMS DB2
- Preferred: Experience with installing and configuring IBM Power equipment and systems
- Preferred: Manage IBM mainframe hardware, replacements
- Preferred: Deep knowledge of IBM storage devices for IBM Mainframe and open systems
