About the role
- Design and implement a scalable data architecture that supports diverse product lines, ensuring data models are robust, efficient, and compliant with global privacy regulations
- Build and maintain data abstraction layers and APIs to provide secure, controlled access to data while preserving a zero-knowledge approach for PII
- Lead engineering efforts for data management systems, including data ingestion, encryption, transformation, and storage
- Implement solutions for data cleansing, quality assurance, and automated cradle-to-grave data lifecycle management
- Develop and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure to support business intelligence, product analytics, and reporting for internal stakeholders
- Work with executive stakeholders (CEO, CTO, CAIO, CISO, DPO) to champion data privacy principles and ensure security and privacy are fundamental requirements
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and drive best practices in data engineering and software development
Requirements
- Experience in data engineering, data architecture, or a related field, with significant experience in a SaaS environment
- Expertise in designing and implementing complex data models and schemas (e.g., NoSQL, relational, data lakes)
- Proficiency with cloud-native data services (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and strong understanding of big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka)
- Advanced skills in a programming language such as Python, Java, or Scala
- Background in building and managing ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouses
- Proven experience working with sensitive data, preferably in a privacy-focused or regulated industry
- Experience with real-time data streaming and event-driven architectures
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to think critically about complex data challenges
- Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- (Preferred) Background in cybersecurity or information security
- (Preferred) Understanding of data privacy laws and standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, ISO 27701, ISO 27017/18)
- (Preferred) Experience with data governance tools and platforms
- (Preferred) Startup or growth-stage experience
- (Preferred) Interest in data and analytics to guide decision-making
- (Preferred) Care and respect for customers’ privacy as if it were your own
