About the role
- Manage the team end-to-end (1:1s, vacation and leave management, career development and performance).
- Actively monitor team health (workload, burnout, morale) and drive talent retention efforts.
- Conduct feedback cycles and formal evaluations, creating Individual Development Plans (IDPs) to close gaps and amplify strengths.
- Lead recruiting and onboarding processes, ensuring a technical and cultural bar-raising standard.
- Foster an environment of psychological safety, autonomy and collaboration.
- Connect technical priorities (roadmap, technical debt, architectural improvements) with business strategy and OKRs.
- Partner with Product Managers and Tech Leads to balance feature delivery with technical health.
- Sponsor structural initiatives such as stack modernization, automation and observability.
- Ensure accuracy in capacity planning and team allocation, removing organizational impediments.
- Define and monitor engineering metrics and processes (SLA, SLOs, MTTR, Lead Time).
- Oversee the lifecycle of critical incidents (War Rooms, RCA), ensuring learning and prevention, and getting hands-on only in severe crises.
- Represent engineering in planning forums and communicate progress and challenges to stakeholders and C-level executives.
Requirements
- Relevant Experience: Approximately 7+ years in the technology sector, with solid prior experience leading teams or managing development processes.
- Technical Background: Ability to produce implementation models and discuss solutions for highly complex problems (System Design, Architecture). You must have a deep understanding of your team’s work to guide them effectively.
- People Management: Proven experience leading Engineers and Tech Leads. You should be skilled in 1:1s, delivering difficult feedback and designing performance improvement plans.
- Planning and Processes: Ability to ensure team schedule accuracy and design efficient workflows (Agile, Lean, etc.).
- Communication and Influence: Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and to persuade stakeholders.
- Problem Solving: Ability to identify root causes in complex or systemic cases and guide the team toward resolution (Diagnostics).
