About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Join Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute as an independent provider
  • Collaborate with fellow APPs, physicians, nursing, medical, and multidisciplinary healthcare team members
  • Provide high-quality neurological care for patients with a wide range of neurological conditions
  • Evaluate, manage, and treat patients with new or established neurological disorders
  • Diagnose conditions and initiate and execute treatment plans
  • Exercise autonomy in medical decision-making while collaborating with staff physicians and the healthcare team
  • Counsel and educate neurological patients and families
  • Conduct medical histories and complete physical examinations where indicated
  • Initiate and interpret laboratory, radiology, cardiographic, and other diagnostic tests as credentialed and privileged
  • Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged
  • Prescribe and monitor medications as permitted by license and applicable policies
  • Participate in medical team rounds
  • Refer patients to specialists and specialized health resources as appropriate
  • Ensure continuity of care and liaise with patients and multidisciplinary care teams
  • Monitor quality through periodic review of records and treatment plans
  • Facilitate length of stay, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance for inpatient management
  • Support healthcare team professional development
  • Promote evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research
  • May conduct research studies and assist with data collection and analysis
  • May serve as a clinical preceptor and onboard new caregivers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider
  • MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role
  • Graduate of an accredited APRN program
  • Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s)
  • Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s)
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required
  • ACLS or PALS through the AHA, or NRP through the AAP, may be required based upon work setting
  • Arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with applicable State Board of Nursing requirements
  • Credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of applicable hospitals
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated competency in advanced assessment and diagnosis
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize the electronic medical record
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
  • Related clinical experience preferred
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods
  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination for physical examinations
  • Corrected vision and hearing within a normal range
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry items up to 50 pounds
  • May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
  • Oral and written communication in English
