About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support and strengthen health and safety across Canadian programs by acting as the primary safety liaison between corporate safety, operations, and subcontracted partners.
  • Focus on evaluating safety responsibilities, especially where subcontractors and trade work are involved, and ensuring programs are compliant with provincial and federal OHS requirements.
  • Take a hands‑on, program‑by‑program approach, starting with programs in Ontario and British Columbia to assess exposure, clarify responsibilities, and design practical, compliant safety plans that teams actually use.
  • Serve as the primary health & safety point of contact for Canadian programs, with a strong focus on subcontracted and trade‑based work.
  • Assess safety risk and responsibility related to contractors and subcontractors across multiple provinces.
  • Design and support implementation of program‑specific safety plans aligned with provincial OHS requirements and operational realities.
  • Partner with Operations, Legal, and Safety & Fleet to identify exposure and recommend practical risk mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct site visits and program reviews to understand how work is performed and where safety gaps exist.
  • Support regulatory compliance, audits, and corrective actions across federal and provincial frameworks.
  • Influence leaders and field teams to adopt compliant safety practices without relying on rigid enforcement.
  • Translate safety risks and findings into clear, actionable improvements.
  • Travel periodically to operational sites and offices to support program rollout and oversight.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of progressive health & safety experience in Canada, ideally in environments involving construction, trades, subcontractors, or field operations.
  • Post‑secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Hands‑on experience building, managing, or scaling safety programs or program‑specific safety plans.
  • Strong working knowledge of provincial OHS legislation, particularly Ontario and British Columbia.
  • Experience navigating contractor and subcontractor safety responsibilities and regulatory grey areas.
  • High level of independence, sound judgment, and strong time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and influence skills, with the ability to drive change without authority.
