About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define the cost of revenue classification methodology for hosting, infrastructure, and data provider costs
- Build and own the monthly cost accrual process
- Reconcile vendor invoices against internal usage data across 200+ data provider contracts
- Execute month-end close for cost of revenue, including journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analysis
- Partner with Data Partnerships on vendor negotiations and contract structuring
- Partner with Revenue Accounting on revenue share treatments and contract modifications
- Deliver Clay's first complete view of gross margin
- Apply AI and modern tooling to design scalable vendor reconciliation and cost accrual workflows
- Own cost of revenue readiness for Clay's first external audit
- Shape how cost data flows from vendor invoice to the general ledger
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful exposure to revenue and cost accounting, vendor/AP management, or accrual accounting
- Solid knowledge of US GAAP cost classification principles and accrual accounting
- Comfortable reconciling large, messy vendor invoice and usage datasets
- Excellent written communication and documentation skills
- Proven track record of building processes from scratch in a high-volume, variable-contract environment
- Big Four or public accounting experience is a plus
- SQL is a strong plus
- Experience at a high-growth startup is a nice to have
- Experience managing or reconciling vendor costs in a usage-based or consumption-based business model is a nice to have
- Familiarity with vendor/procurement contract management tools is a nice to have
- Active CPA is a nice to have
- Hands-on experience applying AI tools such as Claude or Cursor is a nice to have
