About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan and run qualitative research, including interviews, contextual inquiry, and usability testing, to understand civil design workflows
  • Partner with PMs and designers early to shape research questions before design and engineering work begins
  • Synthesize findings into actionable insights that influence roadmap decisions
  • Run usability testing on in-progress designs and prototypes and support rapid iteration
  • Build a repeatable research practice with templates, a shared repository, and regular customer conversations
  • Support quantitative research through surveys and usage data analysis
  • Serve as the customer voice inside the product organization
  • Partner with PMs, designers, and engineers across the product organization
  • Report to the Head of Product

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3–5 years of experience in UX research, with at least some experience in a B2B or technical product environment
  • Ability to run a full study independently, including recruiting, discussion guide creation, moderation, and synthesis
  • Ability to turn qualitative input into clear, actionable product direction
  • Ability to interview civil engineers or field technicians and ask effective follow-up questions
  • Fast, focused research approach
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bonus: experience with technical, spatial, or mapping/GIS-based products
  • Bonus: prior industry experience in Utilities, Construction, or Civil Engineering
  • Bonus: experience setting up a research practice or repository from scratch at an early-stage company
  • Must be located in the Boston, MA or San Francisco, CA area and willing to work from the office at least 2 days per week if hired
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States of America
