About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review, evaluate, negotiate, and litigate contested tax cases through DOR's formal hearing process.
  • Assist the Nebraska Attorney General's office in certain matters involving DOR.
  • Conduct complex and varied research in all areas of taxation and related subject matters.
  • Draft legal documents.
  • Provide legal opinions, advice, and recommendations to DOR staff.
  • Represent DOR as a Creditor in Probate and/or Bankruptcy matters through appointment as a Special Assistant Attorney General.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Attorney III: Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies.
  • Attorney II: One year of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies.
  • Attorney I: Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the Nebraska Bar.
  • Legal Requirements: In accordance with Section 7-101, Nebraska Revised, Reissued Statutes of 1943, incumbents in this class must be admitted to the Nebraska Bar.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Recent experience in litigation and knowledge of the discovery rules; corporate and individual income tax; state and local tax; bankruptcy litigation; criminal litigation; audit and financial record review and/or experience in Federal and/or State tax research; probate and collection law; administrative law practices; high academic performance; course work with an emphasis in taxation, accounting or auditing.
